Raised access floor supports and stringer detail

Raised floor types: comparing systems

Different access floor systems address different requirements. Panel material, support construction and finish should be evaluated together. Comparisons need verified assembly performance and the proposed conditions of use.

01Panel materials and construction

Available products include different core materials, metal facings and specialist metal assemblies. Material selection affects weight, edge treatment and operating requirements.

Check load, fire and other performance in the documentation for the specific system. A material name alone does not establish a common performance class for every panel.

02Acoustic solutions

Office acoustics must distinguish sound absorption within a room from sound transfer between rooms through the void. These require different solutions. Perforation, absorbers, finishes and void barriers form part of the acoustic strategy.

Performance depends on the assembly and its junctions. Specify the required metrics and compare them with the product test conditions.

03Ventilation and technical systems

Ventilation panels provide the air supply required by the design. Their location and free area must match the airflow calculation. Cooling elements require coordination with pipework, controls and maintenance access.

Technical spaces also need specific assessment of static and moving loads, penetrations and electrical properties.

04Price and comparable supply scope

Cost combines the system, finish, accessories, layout complexity, delivery and installation. Small rooms can have a very different proportion of cuts and non-standard details from open areas.

Use one brief and supply scope when comparing offers. Select the solution that meets the calculated and operational requirements, rather than the one with the longest list of catalogue features.
