Documentation quality depends on both individual disciplines and the coordination between them. This overview helps clients understand design responsibilities and define a multidisciplinary project brief.
01Architecture and structure
Architecture defines the layout, spatial arrangement, finishes and junction details. Structural design establishes the load-bearing system and its response to design actions.
Coordinate openings, levels, equipment loads and fixings across these disciplines. Refurbishment design also needs to reflect the assessment of existing structures.
02HVAC and water services
Heating, ventilation and air conditioning provide the required internal conditions. Water supply and drainage serve sanitary and process equipment.
Routes must be coordinated with ceilings, structure and equipment. Allow access to valves, filters and serviceable components, and resolve penetrations and insulation requirements.
03Power, lighting and communications
Electrical design follows equipment loads and operating modes. Lighting, backup supply, protection and earthing require specific consideration. Communications packages cover the agreed systems, such as structured cabling, telecommunications, CCTV and access control.
Reliability and redundancy requirements follow the building use and design criteria, rather than the commercial class of an office alone.
04Fire safety and coordination reviews
Fire safety measures must align with planning, structure and building services. Evacuation, fire separation, detection, warning and suppression form a coordinated strategy.
Before issue, review service intersections, equipment access, load coordination and consistency between drawings and specifications. Model checks help identify geometric clashes but do not replace calculations or engineering judgement.
